He started out as a gardener in the old San Francisco airport and worked his way up to supervisor of maintenance and head of the police department at the airport. He retired in 1976. During his years at the airport he was known as "mister airport", as he had seen the airport grow from it's roots. During his many years there he met many foreign dignitaries and VIPs from all over the world, including Richard Nixon, the Beatles, many movie stars, President Lyndon Johnson, and various kings, queens.¹
