From a newspaper story: Inquest into the death of Robert Ball, 19, of R. R. 3, Canton, who was killed at 12:45 p.m. Friday when the truck he was driving was struck by a Rock Island freight train at the LaMarsh Creek bridge on Route 24, has been set for 1:30 p.m. Monday by Coroner Chauncey Wood. Accident was the third within 24 hours within a radius of 100 yards. Raymond L. McGlothlin of East Peoria was killed late Thursday afternoon in a head-on collision which occurred near the scene of Ball's fatal accident, and Lachlan Crissey of Lewistown was severely injured Thursday morning near the same spot. Young Ball had discussed buying a new home just the morning before his death, with his mother. Born in Bernadotte township, Fulton county, on Dec. 18, 1929, he was the son of Jesse and Verna Williams Ball. In addition to his parents, he is survived by four brothers, Ernie, Route 5, Canton; James, Route 3, Canton; and Jack and Richard at home. Eight sisters also survive. They are: Mrs. Leona Shurrlebeam of Hanna City; Mrs. Nellie Westerfield of St. David; Mrs. Lila Sheets, Route 3, Canton; Mrs. Jesse Seward, Mrs. _ena Carnich and Mrs. Genevieve Sheets, all of Canton, and Shirley and Sharon, at home.1
