b. c1809 Wilmington VT
d. 1875 Hoosick Falls NY
Levi Chandler Ball was born on 25 February 1809 at Wilmington, Windham Co., VT.2,3 He was the son of Lemuel Ball and Rebecca Hill.1 Levi Chandler Ball married Marcia Ann Parsons, daughter of Seth Parsons, on 26 September 1833 at Hoosick Falls, Rensselaer Co., NY.2 Levi Chandler Ball died on 8 May 1875 at Hoosick Falls, Rensselaer Co., NY, at age 66.2 He was buried at Maple Grove Old Cemetery, Hoosick Falls, Rensselaer Co., NY.4
In the fall of 1828 Levi Chandler Ball decided to go to New Orleans where two of his brothers, Russell and Erastus, were running prosperous businesses. With the help of his brothers, he built a business as a merchant. New Orleans at this time was a bustling place where an enterprising individual could do well in business. Chandler Ball was hard working and extremely lucky. At the end of two years, he had established a prosperous business and made considerable money. He remained in New Orleans until 1833. He sold his interest in the business to Jonathan Ball (relationship unknown) and left for Hoosick Falls to set up residence.2 His first business venture after arriving in Hoosick Falls was in the field of farming. He imported quality breeds of farm stock and many of the local herds of sheep and cattle were improved from his stock.2 He built the Phoenix Hotel in 1837 at Hoosick Falls, Rensselaer Co., NY.2 Between 1852 and 1858 Chandler Ball and Russell Parsons had a business manufacturing and selling a grain reaper.2 At the age of 53, Chandler Ball left his position in the local elected Assembly to become a quartermaster of the 125th Regiment in the Civil War.2      Photo courtesy of the Hoosick Township Historical Society.2
