     From a letter written February 7,1885, by Irving R. Ball:

"My Grandfather Ball and his wife were Quakers in the early days. Franklin and Emma Ball. They were a blest couple. Sometimes the joy in his heart would explode with a shout in this quiet congregation. The shout of joy upset this congregation. Two sextons came by his pew, gathered him up bodily, carried him out doors to the middle of the road. I can just see him smiling at the two sextons. I wish I could have known them. I will have to be content to see them in heaven. About this time, his friends Warren and Bernice Varney, grandparents on my mothers side, invited them to attend services being held in the Varney home. The Free Methodist Church had just been organized 1884 in their home, 17 Ogden Street, Glens Falls. The Balls and the Varneys spent the rest of their lives in the Free Methodist Church."¹
