     Captain Robert Ball was born circa 1700 at London, England.1 He married Elizabeth Davidson on 26 June 1728 at Charlestown, Suffolk Co., MA.2 Captain Robert Ball died in 1753 at off the coast of Guinea.1
     A large portrait of Capt. Robert Ball, done by the elder John Smibert (1688-1751) and a smaller one of his wife, Elizabeth, by "Blackburn" (probably Joseph, who was active in Boston about 1755-58), survived the Revolutionary War and were in the possession of Henry H. Edes (a descendant) c. 1879.3 Captain Robert Ball was of the brig "Poultney" and later the master of the "Post Boy."3
