Comment by DGB: This is a very difficult family to sort out. the easiest way I can reconcile the patchwork of data is to make an unsupported assumption about the marriage to Elizabeth Colburn either being to a different William Ball and that this William Ball married Sarah Woodman or assuming that this William Ball was simultaneously married to two women in different towns. Alternatively, one could fabricate a more complicated assumption that William Ball was courting two women at the same time (Sarah and Elizabeth) and got engaged to Sarah and married to Elizabeth; but it was Sarah that was listed as the mother to the Ball baby that was baptized in Salem MA in December 1781, so perhaps Elizabeth died early and William quickly married Sarah. End of comment. He was a Revolutionary Wary soldier from Walpole, NH.1
