     He enlisted in the Civil War, was promoted to 1st Lieutenant, served until April, 1865 when was honorably discharged. He returned home, studied dentistry under Tourtelotte of Worcester and afterward for three years in the office of his brother, Dr. Simon BALL, in Marion, Alabama. He then returned to Boston and graduated from the Boston Dental School in its first class in 1870.1
